I have a 2026 CR-V where the front plate was stolen. I reported the license plate as stolen to NYPD as required by NYS Law. The officer who took the report incorrectly marked both the license plate AND the VIN number as stolen. He refused to issue me a report on the spot, so I wasn’t able to catch that he made a mistake. I didn’t discover this until I started getting pulled over due to Flock camera hits for having a stolen vehicle in the NCIC database. The NYPD corrected the issue by marking the vehicle as “recovered after theft” and the DMV re-issued the registration with new plates.…
