I’m looking at a 2026 Kia K4 EX. My credit score is around 430, I’d have about $2,000–$2,500 to put down, with the possibility of a co signer.
I currently have a 2025 Hyundai Sonata with about a $34k loan and a $912/month payment with 24% apr. I’m roughly $14k–$15k upside down, so I would NOT be trading the Sonata into the K4 deal. I’m considering voluntarily surrendering the Sonata after getting another vehicle.
A Kia dealership previously told me the only realistic way they might be able to get me approved for a K4 would be to apply without the Sonata as a trade, since there’s too much negative equity to roll over.
I know the APR would probably be high. I’m mainly wondering whether an approval is realistically possible at all.
