Unlike 30 years ago, there’s nothing necessarily forcing the automakers that race endurance prototypes to sell their wares to deep-pocketed clients. Still, some do anyway. Ferrari and Aston Martin make versions of their Le Mans Hypercars for amateurs to take to the track, and Porsche crafted a one-off, road-legal version of its 963 inspired by Count Rossi’s 917 to sell to a Mr. Roger Penske.
